When dance, music-both instrumental and vocal join forces for a common cause, the result if often times magical. And magical would be an apt word indeed to describe Encore 2015-the return of Music in Motion. Readers will recall this unique fundraising initiative, in support of bone and joint health for Albertans has, since 2010, raised significant funds for research-and treatment of-bone and joint disorders including arthritis and osteoporosis. Consider that nearly one in eight Canadians suffer from a form of arthritis and the next generation is expected to see an increase to one in four-a total of ten million Canadians.
Encore 2015, presented by the Calgary Health Trust, supported two dynamic organizations working in partnership-the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health and Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute (ABJHI). Encore also celebrated the legacy of the late, great Dr. Cy Frank-a man whose life was dedicated to allowing research to flourish and medical practice to progress. Dr. Frank-and the late J. R. Bud McCaig established the ABJHI in 2004 with private donations.
That more than $800,000 was raised through Encore 2015 is fabulous indeed-especially given these challenging economic times. VIP sponsors were treated to a pre-concert reception at the home of Encore co-chair Ann McCaig. The next evening saw hundreds of guests pack the Jack Singer for a concert-and never before seen performances from Alberta Ballet. Headlining it all was Holly Cole-winner of the 15th Ella Fitzgerald Award while musical greats the likes of Senator (Ret.) Tommy Banks, Jens Lindemann and Oscar Lopez joined in on the fundraising fun.
